Gene Tutor 4.2

Gene Tutor is an educational application developed to serve as a supplementary study resource for students enrolled in standard college-level genetics courses. Initially tailored for the “Molecular and Mendelian Genetics” course at Barnard College, Columbia, its content is broadly applicable to similar curricula across various institutions and advanced introductory biology classes. The app encompasses a range of topics including Mendelian inheritance, pedigree analysis, sex linkage in classical genetics, as well as DNA structure, gene expression, and gene regulation in molecular genetics.

The application offers several features designed to enhance learning, such as:

• Sample questions across all topics, primarily in multiple-choice format
• Comprehensive study materials presented via web pages optimized for mobile devices, integrating numerous diagrams and embedded videos
• A glossary that defines frequently encountered terminology
• The ability to flag questions for quick review and retrieval
• A shuffle function that presents questions randomly from selected topics or the entire question bank
• Three difficulty levels with options to filter questions accordingly
